Assignment Brief
Clear statement of the work that students are expected to undertake:
The assignment will be based upon analog communication. A single report is required to include the following sections:
1) Title
2) Author
3) Part A: Analog Communication Review
4) Part B: Single Audio Signal Transmission
5) Part C: Multiple Audio Signal Wireless Transmission
· The report should include a minimum of 5 references including viewed articles or conference papers, industry reports, white papers, recent books, and reputable websites.
· Ensure that all sources are appropriately cited. For all materials adopted from other sources, proper acknowledgment through referencing is mandatory.
Assessment Criteria/Mark Scheme:
Marks will be assigned according to the following criteria
The relative weighting is shown below:
Part A – 20%
Part B – 30%
Part C - 40%
Report Presentation- 10%
Expected size of the submission:
Overall length of this report should not exceed 2000 words, excluding schematics and graphs. Exceeding this limit by 10% may result in a reduction of marks.
Assignment weighting: This assignment is worth 50% of the module marks
Learning Outcomes assessed:
This assignment assessed the following module learning outcome:
Knowledge & Understanding
• Apply knowledge of mathematical and scientific problems to the solution of complex communication problems. (AHEP 4 C1)
KD5066 Assignment – 2023/24
Analog Communications
Produce a report describing each section. Include equations, schematics and results where necessary.
Part A: Analog Communications Review
Multiple Access within Analog Communications have evolved considerably over the last century. Produce a report outlining the key multiple access methods. Within your report discuss each of the major techniques. You are required to describe the operation of each technique, how to generate each technique and the major advantages and disadvantage of each technique.
(As a guideline this should be approximately 1000 words)
Part B: Single Audio Signal Transmission
An signal which has a frequency response covering the audio spectrum is to be transmitted and received using amplitude modulation. Design the full system to achieve this and sketch the block diagram of both transmitted and receiver. The choice of anolog modulation has not been specified, this is for you to choose and justify. Sketch the frequency response at each stage. In your solution
Part C: Audio Signal Wireless Transmission
Three signals, described below, are to be transmitted from London to Hong Kong on a single wireless channel.
Signal 1 has a frequency response from 1KHz to 4KHz
Signal 2 has a frequency response from 3KHz to 4KHz
Signal 3 has a frequency response from 1KHz to 4KHz
Design a system to achieve this. You need to include all frequency response at each stage and full explanation of the system. You should also justify all key decisions.
