THE TASK

Galactic Voyages, (a fictitious company) with headquarters in most major cities, is focused on designing and marketing trips to space for the public. Your group will report on analyses conducted using a dataset provided to the People Analytics team of Galactic Voyages (see Dataset, pages 3-4). These analyses provide insight into features that may explain or be associated with the engagement of employees based in the Sunshine Coast.

IN YOUR GROUP’S 10 MINUTE (MAXIMUM) PRESENTATION, YOU WILL:

Present the

context (4 marks)

•    Introduce who you are, your role, your purpose, the data you are using

Summarise key analyses/results (8 marks)

•    Provide a detailed overview of what analyses were undertaken and what the results reveal

Explain

implications and findings (7

marks)

•    In plain language, explain what implications the results have for Galactic Voyages and why the findings are important to the business

Use at least one (1) theoretical model taught during the course to justify your reasoning (with appropriate referencing).

Present justified recommendations (8 marks)

•    Present a justified set of 3-5 recommendations regarding what the HR function should invest in to increase employee engagement (if this is deemed important)

•    Base your rationale in theory and literature taught during the course, and include at least one theoretical model (with appropriate referencing).

Also provide detail for each recommendation. For example, describe it     comprehensively, explain why this is a good investment for the business, and how the business could go about adopting your recommendation.

Discuss

methodological limitations (4 marks)

In discussing any methodological limitations to be considered with the

project, think about potential ethical considerations, and to what extent this project is an appropriate use of HR Analytics.

Also consider the practicality, feasibility, costs, and evaluation of interventions recommended.

•    Be sure to draw on literature from the course where appropriate.

Be professional and engaging (4 marks)

•    While notes can be helpful when presenting, where possible please avoid reading from a script as this makes it hard to maintain eye contact and engagement with the audience (and is not common practice in industry).

NOTE: See full rubric on BB for a detailed breakdown of the assessment criteria.

ADDITIONAL PRESENTATION GUIDANCE AND REQUIREMENTS

o Use an appropriate software programme for presentations such as PowerPoint or Canvas.

o Maximum 10 slides (not including the title slide or appendices).

o Each group member must verbally present (2-3 minutes each, depending on the size of your group).

o Where appropriate, create a visualisation of the model tested (e.g., a diagram). Feel free to be creative!

o Include an appendix describing each group member’s contribution (2 sentences each). Please see ‘A note on team work’ in the shaded box below.

o Cite at least 3 good quality, peer-reviewed articles in your presentation.

o Include a reference list in APA 7th  edition format for all literature cited.

o Complete a peer assessment for each of your group members.

NOTE: Each student is expected to contribute equally throughout the group assessment work.

The peer assessment will be weighted such that group members who receive positive reviews from the other members of their group will receive a higher weighting than those who don’t, and thus a higher mark overall for the assessment. The peer assessment will be made available on BB following the presentation deadline.

A NOTE ON TEAM WORK

To excel as business leaders, you will need to deal openly, constructively, and in a timely manner with any issues in your team. While it is hoped all team members will work happily with, and learn from, each other, sometimes problems can occur. If so, as a first step, please raise and deal with this issue immediately with your team member/s.

Consistent problematic issues regarding team member participation will prompt a meeting with the course coordinator with the intent to reintegrate the erring member. Uncooperative members run the risk of having their grade reduced to account for their behaviour’s assumed negative effect on their team’s project and as a deterrent to social loafing.

It is strongly recommended that each team appoint a Secretary-Recorder (this can be a rotating or shared role), who will maintain a log of all team activities (including attendance at meetings and team member follow-through on commitments). Should the course coordinator be requested to intervene with a team member issue, the log will be reviewed.

You are encouraged to have a Leader to facilitate the teamwork. Again, this can be a rotating or shared role to give everyone the opportunity to lead.

CASE CONTEXT

An employee engagement survey dataset has been provided to Galactic Voyages’ People Analytics team for analyses. The team carried out analyses to provide insight into features that may explain or be associated with employee engagement of 5001 employees based in the Sunshine Coast hinterland.

NOTE: Employees were sent a survey link asking them to complete the survey “within 24 hours” and that they "must" complete the survey. The survey link tracked who completed the survey and when   they completed it. A report setting out who completed the survey was sent to line managers.

ANALYSES TASK CONDUCTED

The People Analytics Team analyst, Maria Zu, conducted some initial descriptive statistics analyses (see Analyses Appendix A).

Maria then ran a multiple-regression analysis predicting employee engagement. She included a range of meaningful items that were included in the employee engagement questionnaire, and provided you with the output (see Analyses Appendix B).
