Final Exam (1)
1. Starts 7am, Friday 8th of May 2020 , Sydney time (AEST -
Australian Eastern Standard Time). Open until 7am Saturday 9th of
May 2020 AEST.
2. MCQs in Moodle. There is ONE correct answer for each MCQ.
There is NO penalty for incorrect answer.
3. The MCQs will be based on specific problem contexts to be released
within WebCMS (under the Final Exam menu item) at 7am on the
day of the exam (08 May Sydney time).
4. Two parts each 30 minutes. Only ONE attempt is allowed for each
part. Moodle timer to track time. You can take them anytime within
24 hour, from 7am 08 May to 7am 09 May. MOCK exam available
with unlimited attempts to familiarise yourself with the platform.
5. Email or for
any issues except question interpretation. Use your own judgement to
attempt every question even if you think there is a mistake. This will
be the same for ALL students
Use the Lecture Forum in WebCMS to
post any questions regarding Final Exam

Open book, but by attempting this exam, you AGREE to the following
statement:
"I declare that all of the work submitted for this exam is my own work, completed
without assistance from anyone else."

• Not a memory test, questions will examine your
understanding of concepts
• Tests whether you can apply the principles in a
situation that you haven’t seen before

• Syllabus: Comprehensive
• See the next few slides for the contents for the exam
• More focus on the material after the mid-semester exam
• Self-study material is not examinable
• Questions may examine multiple layers at the same time
• No questions on programming or lab exams
• However reading through the lab exercise solutions may be
instructive for understanding certain concepts

• How to prepare?
• Read and thoroughly understand all content
• Read lectures notes as well as your textbook
• Solve and practice:
• Go through all the homework/sample questions, textbook
exercises, etc. for practice (MCQ could be formulated from
these questions)
• Don’t panic and get stressed if you come across a
hard question
• Being open book exam means that you have the
opportunity to investigate further before you answer

m Good understanding of the applications and protocols

m All content is examinable
m No questions on finite state machines (RDT, TCP)

m All content is examinable excluding the following:
• Router internals
• IPv6 (general content of tunneling may be examined)
• Specific routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, RIP, etc
• SDN (centralized control plane)

o All content is examinable excluding the following:
• CRC Arithmetic
• Virtual LANs
• Link Virtualization
• Data Centers
q Wireless Networks
o Wireless Links and Network characteristics, WiFi,
802.11 MAC are all included
