Project 2 FAN-LED
This project is an individual effort.
Your customer has requested a circuit to illuminate a Red Colored LED when a small DC FAN is operating.
. Battery Voltage = you decide the battery voltage, only one battery allowed in the circuit, any value for DC voltage is allowed.
. RED LED (see attached specs for CREE 5mm Red LED)
o Forward Voltage = 2.1 VDC, operate at 20 mA (assume LED off is current < 20mA)
o Max Power Dissipation = 65 mW (50% of maximum power dissipation)
o Reverse Breakdown Voltage = 5 V
. FAN CFM-4010V-150-157 (see attached specs)
o 12 VDC rating, operate at 34.2 mA (90% of maximum current).
For your design, you may use any number of other components including resistors, general-purpose diodes and/or Zener diodes. For the resistors, any Ohm value is acceptable but use ½ watt resistors. For a Zener, any voltage is allowed, use maximum power of 650 mW. For other diodes, any type acceptable, use a maximum power dissipation = 650 mW.
1) The red LED should illuminate when the fan is ON and operating at +12VDC and 34.2 mA.
2) If the fan breaks (pulls no current) or is removed from the circuit, the LED should turn off.
Submit all your hand calculations. Clearly show the two states of operation – (1) normal operation with fan and LED both ON, and (2) Fan disconnected and LED off. State any assumptions in your analysis, such as constant voltage
drop model for all diode types.
Submit a Bill of Materials (table) of all components that you need for your the circuit; resistors, diodes, etc. On your table, include the operating “power” for both states (Fan ON and Fan OFF).
